We’re lucky, here in Alberta, to be home to the beautiful (and educational) area of the badlands. Our first family road trip will take you through the area, exploring the hoodoos, learning dinosaur facts, and even coming across some unexpected surprises like Drumheller’s little church. The Dinosaur Trail is a 48-km circular trail that runs through Drumheller and the Bleriot Ferry, and parallel to the Red Deer River. If you’re travelling this route for the first time, but things seem a little familiar, don’t be surprised. Drumheller and surrounding areas have been the site of over 75 films, television productions, and commercials. The hoodoos, which date back to about 70-75 million years ago, make quite the backdrop.
