Putting Cash Back in Your Pocket

By AMA Staff

As inflation continues to soar, we know many Albertans are thinking of their wallets and the ways they can save—especially on essentials like groceries, food delivery and ride services.

We want to help put money back in your pocket with our Cash Back Gift Card program. It’s simple: buy a gift card from AMA, for products or services you were already planning to buy—like a President’s Choice or Sobeys gift card to spend on groceries—then you get 5% cash back in reward dollars that go into your AMA account. You can use those reward dollars to pay for almost anything AMA sells, including your membership, car registration or travel. You can even put it towards purchasing more gift cards!

“Our whole family uses them,” says Peter Horwood, who’s been an AMA member for 26 years. “We use them for our routine daily spending, and we all carry one or more of the cards at any given time.”

He and his wife buy the cards not only for themselves, but also for others.

“We tend to buy a whole bunch of cards at once, and then we hand them out as gifts to our adult kids and sometimes to other friends—my wife and I and our kids all carry them with us,” Horwood says. “It basically makes our AMA membership free.”

With food being one of the top things Albertans are paying more for lately, AMA is happy to offer cards that cover groceries at stores like Safeway, Sobeys and President’s Choice, as well as dining options for restaurants such as The Keg and Earls.

Options for Everyone

AMA’s Cash Back Gift Card program was launched in 2015 and has only grown since. There are now plenty of ways to save on your everyday purchases, including some you may not have considered.

For the entertainment enthusiast, you can pick up a Cineplex or Rec Room card to save on a night out, or grab a card for The Source to stock up on at-home theatre and gaming options.

If you want to treat yourself to some new clothes, the Shopping.ca gift card can be used at most stores at Cross Iron Mills in Calgary, or at Edmonton’s Southgate Centre.

Some of our gift cards are also now available as e-cards, including Sobeys, Uber, and Uber Eats. The convenience of an e-card means you can earn reward dollars right from your computer or phone without having to go to an AMA centre to grab the card—although you have that option too!

We’re always adding more cards to our collection, so stay tuned for what’s coming next.
