Keep your kiddos safe this spooky season with AMA

By Meaghan Archer

Is it a witch?! A vampire?! A ghost?! Nope, it’s just the light catching your AMA safety armband.

When it comes to trick-or-treating, our top priority is keeping our little ones safe and visible. That’s why we’re giving out free reflective armbands to help them stand out this Halloween. They’re easy to slip on and won’t interfere with their costume.

The program was inspired by Charles McIntyre, who tragically lost his life in a Lethbridge crosswalk accident involving a distracted driver in April 2020.

When Lethbridge AMA employee Ludy Mennie learned that AMA was providing reflective armbands last year, she was the first to request an entire set for her daughter’s school – Coalbanks Elementary School, where Charles McIntyre had once been a student.

After hearing about what happened to Charles and the community’s commitment to keeping kids safe, we knew we had to step up!  AMA provided 675 arm bands for Coalbanks Elementary – but Ludy wasn’t stopping there. She was determined to cover Lethbridge and the surrounding area with armbands to keep children visible. The initiative quickly spread across Alberta, with teachers, staff and students proudly wearing the armbands at school and into Halloween’s evening activities.

To pick up an armband for the little princess, pirate or pumpkin in your life, just stop by one of our centres and show your AMA membership card until Oct. 31 (while quantities last). It’s that easy!

While armbands are free, we know how important it is to our members to give back. If you can, please donate to the AMA Community Foundation, which supports initiatives in childhood safety and safe communities.

Bulk Orders Available!

If you need more armbands for a school or community group, you can submit an order for ten or more. To get your bulk order of armbands in time for Halloween, please complete our online order form by Friday, October 25.

Thanks for joining us in keeping children safe this Halloween!
