There’s fun to be had in all corners of the province as summer continues! Whether you’re a street act fan, a rodeo lover gearing up for the Calgary Stampede, or a music aficionado who’s ready for some big shows: check out this snapshot of things happening in Alberta this July.
Street festival fun
The streets in both Edmonton and Red Deer are set to become alive with the magic of performance this July with two festivals bringing some of the best entertainers in the world to sweep you off your feet. Epic street acts, roving character actors, dancers, puppeteers and musicians will be on hand to entertain the whole family—the Edmonton International Street Performer’s Festival takes place July 4-13, while CentreFest Red Deer kicks off July 26-27.
Stampede and Midway season
The smell of cotton candy, fried food and hay can only mean one thing: carnival and rodeo season is back in Alberta! The Calgary Stampede, also known as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, takes place July 4-13, features a massive midway, epic rodeo competitions, concerts, and more: it really brings a celebration vibe across the whole city this month.
Edmonton won’t be left out from the party vibes this July – the city’s K-Days fair and music festival will take place July 18-27 this year. Rides, games, music, and food aplenty will make sure the fun in the sun is memorable for all.
A sizzling symphony of taste
Nothing says summer more than a juicy rack of ribs fresh off the grill – and this July there are multiple BBQ festivals happening in all corners of the province. The Western Canada Rib Fest Tour is making stops all around Alberta this summer—after stopping in Red Deer June 20-22, the festival will head to Lethbridge June 27-July 1, Grande Prairie from July 18-20, then to Cold Lake July 26-28. And if your city isn’t on that list – more Alberta stops on the tour continue through August and September!
Lethbridge Fiesta Extravaganza
Canada’s most expansive Filipino summer festival—which takes place across multiple Canadian cities and provinces—will be celebrated in Lethbridge July 19-20 at Henderson Lake Park. The Fiesta Extravaganza, also known as the “Festival of Smiles,” will include Filipino culture, entertainment, food, and other immersive experiences. Did you know: Alberta has the second-largest population percentage of Filipino residents in Canada (4.78%), second only to Manitoba (6.78%)!
Hello Summer, Fort Mac!
An incredible lineup of artists is set to rock up north in Fort McMurray this summer, with Our Lady Peace, Fefe Dobson, Three Days Grace, and Matthew Good Band are just some of the acts getting ready to rock the stage July 5 and 6 at the Hello Summer Music Festival. The event will take over MacDonald Island Park and offers guests the option to watch the show from either the field or the stands – so you’ll be able to pick the experience that works for you.
The Circle of Life on stage
The Lion King, one of the most celebrated Broadway Musicals of all time, is touring the country through the Broadway Across Canada program and will bring Calgary and Edmonton audiences straight to Pride Rock this July.
