Things to do in Alberta: April 2024

By Meaghan Archer

It is officially spring, which means warmer temperatures, less snow (cross your fingers) and a lot of opportunities to have some fun with a variety of events around the province.

Sweet Strings

Enjoy a night of music with the Calgary Philharmonic and Edmonton’s Garneau String Quartet. From jazz night with Capatha Jenkins April 5-6, to a mashup performance of Beethoven X. Coldplay on April 27, the Calgary Phil has something to tantalize everyone’s ears. AMA members save 15 percent on tickets for concerts at the Philharmonic. Up in Edmonton, join the Garneau String Quartet for a night filled with Mozart, Shubert and Wijeratne on April 8.

Spring Cleaning

While it’s not necessarily a fun event, spring cleaning can be incredibly satisfying in many ways. Whether you’re clearing out debris in your yard, freshening up the garage or purging closets in the house, spring cleaning can leave your space feeling fresh and bright. Need a hand? AMA Rewards partner Cleaning Pros’ team of professionals will be there at the ready. Save 50 percent on your first cleaning when you sign up for recurring visits, and five percent off every clean that follows.

Walk with Dinosaurs

Alberta has long been known as dinosaur territory, and now you can experience what life was like when these ancient creatures roamed the earth. Jurassic Quest is stopping in Calgary from April 19-21 at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede and in Edmonton from April 26-28 at the EXPO Centre. There is fun to be had for the whole family! Can’t make the weekend exhibits? Telus World of Science has you covered with its Tyrannosaurus-sized Journey into the Mesozoic Era: Explore Dinosaurs exhibition, opening March 23. Entry is included with admission, and AMA members save 10 percent.

Get Green Thumb Ready

Spring weather in Alberta can be a bit unpredictable, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start planning your seasonal garden. Whether you want to fill your garden with lush flowers or start up a vegetable garden, it’s a great time to get prepared. As an added bonus, AMA members get an exclusive deal to save 10 percent on select regular priced items at both Parkland Nurseries and Garden Centre and Blondie’s Gift & Garden Ltd. Not sure where to start? AMA has you covered with advice from our experts on spring planting.

A Mountainous Feast

Head to the mountains for an outdoor tasting event with the Banff Food and Cocktail Festival April 19-May 4. Local bars and restaurants participating in the festival will create a cocktail, mocktail and food pairing menu that showcases Alberta, B.C. and the Rocky Mountains. These festival-exclusive menus are only available while the event is running, so take to the mountains and Banff’s Bear Street for a fun and unique culinary experience.
