Introducing Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

By Natasha Mekhail

Members of the Resistance, you have permission to get giddy. The first phase of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on May 31 at California’s Disneyland Resort—and August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. The new land puts you at the centre of the Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet, Batuu. While stepping into this remote corner of the galaxy far, far away is already pretty awesome, here are six more reasons to visit.

TOTAL IMMERSION
Picture aliens browsing market stalls as Storm Troopers patrol the perimeter, smugglers haggling for parts and a docked fleet of full-size X-Wing starfighters. From buildings to street food, Disney’s Imagineers didn’t miss a detail in bringing this busy weatherworn outpost to life.

FLY A SPACESHIP
As part of the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction, you’ll join the crew of the fastest ship in the galaxy as a pilot, gunner or flight engineer—and actually take the controls. Then you’re off on a wild ride to escape the planet and make the jump into hyperspace and beyond.

GRAB A COLD ONE
After an adventure or two, savour the just-this-side-of-seamy cosmic vibe of Oga’s Cantina, a watering hole inspired by Star Wars Episode IV. Order a chilled Batuu brew and strike up a conversation with a two-headed neighbour, all while being entertained by the resident droid DJ.

BATTLE KYLO REN
The Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction puts you onboard a ship that’s captured and forced to land in the hangar of a Star Destroyer. A thrilling battle pits the ship’s band of Resistance fighters against the First Order, culminating in a face-off with Kylo Ren.
