AMA News: Winter 2022

Charging up at AMA
AS ELECTRIC VEHICLES GROW in both popularity and accessibility, AMA has your back no matter what you drive—just as we always have. And since 27 percent of members say they’re considering an EV for their next auto purchase, AMA is making sure we’re here to keep your batteries topped up and ready for the road. That’s why we’re installing EV charging stations at some of our AMA centres—so you can stop by and charge your batteries with the same convenience other members experience when filling air in their tires. The first charging stations will be installed at three AMA centres: Edmonton South, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, with more locations coming soon.

So, if you’re considering the switch, know that we’re already working hard to be there for you and your EV—including premium AMA Insurance discounts for hybrid or electric vehicles. Visit ama.ab.ca/EV for more information, including when you can top-up at additional charging stations at other AMA centres across Alberta.

Give the gift of AMA
Cement your status as most thoughtful holiday gift-giver with the gift of membership. It’ll help loved ones on—and off—the road with tow services, discounts at local eateries, in-store and online shopping savings, and exclusive rates on products and services at AMA centres. You can even have cards delivered for a nice, old fashioned mailbox surprise. Visit  ama.ab.ca/Compare to compare membership types and start shopping!

New Driver Savings
Do you have a new driver in your household looking to get their licence? AMA’s New Driver Program gives them the advantage they need with professionally developed programs and in-vehicle practice with a licenced driving instructor. Learning with an instructor in the winter months is beneficial for new drivers: They’ll have in-vehicle support during the challenging weather conditions that come every season in Alberta.

AMA members save on the New Driver Program and, after completion, get discounts on car insurance. For more info, head over to ama.ab.ca/NewDrivers.

Working Together Blue and Amber
When you’re on the road, keep an eye out for flashing blue and amber lights—they mean there’s a tow truck operator helping an Albertan at the side of the road ahead, and you need to slow down to 60km/h to give them room to work.

This is a very important step forward for safety and we’re grateful for our member support in getting blue flashing lights added to tow trucks in Alberta. They help improve road safety and make tow operators more visible as they help motorists at the roadside. Because everyone deserves to get home safely at the end of the workday.

Season of Giving
Every year, AMA invites you to Fill Our Fleet with food bank donations to help feed Albertans in need during the holiday season. The rising cost of living has food banks across the province experiencing record demand. It’s more crucial than ever to give back—because no Albertan should have an empty table during the season of giving. If you’re able to, you can make a substantial difference in someone’s life. Visit ama.ab.ca/FillOurFleet to donate or learn about upcoming events.

Manage Insurance Online
AMA Insurance policyholders now have easier and more convenient online access to their insurance information through MyAMA Insurance. You can find your policy details, view upcoming payments, browse active claims and even chat with an insurance advisor. You can even request policy changes and have insurance documents or digital pink cards emailed to you. Just sign in at my.ama.ab.ca using your MyAMA account (or create one if you don’t have one yet) and add your policies.

Auto-Renew Now
AMA Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew saves you time and energy by making vehicle renewal quick and easy. Alberta’s first and only automated vehicle renewal service is right at your fingertips. Just complete a short online signup and you’ll receive your new registration documents in the mail, on time and without fail—every year. It’s especially helpful now that Service Alberta has stopped issuing licence plate stickers, making it a challenge to those who had relied on the sticker to remind them of their vehicle registration’s expiry. Register at ama.ab.ca/Automatic, or visit an AMA centre. For those who haven’t yet taken advantage of auto-renew, the start of your last name determines your registration’s expiry:
