NOT HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
If you’re a snowbird or you plan to be away from home for more than four days this winter, be sure your home is safe by doing a few simple things. Turn off your water and drain your pipes—frozen pipes can burst, causing damage to the structure and your possessions—or arrange for someone to walk through your home once a day so you don’t return to any unpleasant surprises. Damage from something like a burst pipe could be unrepairable if left unchecked for too long. Even worse, your home insurance may not cover damages if you didn’t take the necessary precautions, like having someone check in regularly. For more helpful home tips, visit AMAInsurance.ca/Home.
FILL OUR FLEET
AMA is proud to give back to our community— especially during the holiday season. This year, we’re again inviting you to Fill Our Fleet to support local food banks. From Nov. 21 to Dec. 10, we’ll be accepting monetary donations online and at AMA centres, with proceeds going directly to local food banks. (Non-perishable foods may also be donated at AMA centres.) To launch this year’s campaign, Santa will visit select AMA centres on Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring your kids, your membership card and a donation for a free photo with St. Nick, and help bring some holiday cheer to those who need it most.

MORE THAN A NAME
Doug Roadhouse always went by “Roadie”—a shortened surname that also fit his lifestyle. “He was definitely a driver,” says his daughter, Lori Roadhouse Haney. “Our vacations were always road trips. We once drove to Las Vegas and then across the desert to Disneyland in a 1964 Pontiac Strato with no AC.”
Naturally, when Alberta introduced personalized plates in 1985, Doug got his: R0ADIE. A lifelong AMA member (he even volunteered with AMA in Lethbridge and taught senior driving classes), Doug passed away in 2014, but his plates remain a family heirloom, and a reminder of good times on the road.
