AMA News: Summer 2021

By AMA Staff

The latest news and notes from your Alberta Motor Association

AMA’s member-exclusive shredding events are back this year. Protect yourself from identity theft by destroying personal documents at our free events throughout the province. As of press time, dates and locations have yet to be confirmed. And due to COVID-19 protocols, things may look a little different—with contactless drop-offs and fewer participating locations. Check out for more details.

If you’re not completely comfortable attending one of our shredding events, AMA also offers secure document disposal year-round. When you’re ready, visit an AMA centre, buy a secure envelope and fill it up with your personal papers (credit card slips, bank statements, cancelled cheques), CDs and DVDs. Return the envelope to any AMA centre and we’ll safely dispose of it.

With issues of physical and environmental health top-of-mind, is it any wonder Albertans are getting back in the bike saddle? Cycling is a great way to get fresh air and exercise, run errands and explore your community. Alberta municipalities are making cycling safer and easier by installing separated bike lanes, creating borrow-a-bike programs and more. And AMA is doing its part to keep you pedalling. Our Bike Assist program gives members roadside assistance for minor issues like flat tires and slipped chains. For more serious problems, a service technician can provide a lift home or to a repair shop. Visit to find out more before your next ride.

Your RV is the perfect home away from home, especially during another summer of physical distancing. So it makes sense to protect it like your home. AMA has made it easier than ever to insure your RV with our new online quote tool. Simply visit and tell us a little about your camper unit, fifth wheel, travel trailer or tent trailer. We’ll then show you a personalized policy—and from there, you’re a few quick steps away from purchasing it directly online. Available exclusively to AMA members, this RV insurance is separate from your home and auto policies, and covers trailers that are towed behind cars or trucks. To learn about insuring a drivable motorhome, as well as liability coverage for RVs, call an AMA Insurance advisor at 1-800-615-5897.

Visit an AMA centre and you’ll notice an addition to our roster of easy-to-use prepaid cards. Members earn 5% cash back on the purchase of the new $50 card. Use it at more than 400 national and local retailers at Ivanhoe Cambridge shopping centres in Alberta, including Southgate Shopping Centre in Edmonton, Premium Outlet Collection at EIA, and CrossIron Mills in Calgary. Check out for a full list of participating retailers.

Alberta Transportation has stopped issuing licence plate stickers. If you’ve relied on the sticker as a reminder of your vehicle registration’s expiry date, signing up for AMA Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew now makes more sense than ever. Register here, or visit an AMA centre. The start of your last name determines your registration’s expiry.
