AMA Family Day Spotlight: Michael Knipe and Mark Horne

By AMA Staff

Michael Knipe and Mark Horne will never forget the moment doctors told them their newborn son might not live. Having lost their first child 17 weeks into the pregnancy, the news was almost too much to bear.

The couple’s surrogacy journey began an ocean away, in Cape Town, Africa. Michael owned a small café, whose mission was to bring wholesome food to the inner city, while Mark was working as a physician. Starting a family was so important to them that they discussed it on their first date—and made it a priority when they moved to Lethbridge in 2012.

In this special Family Day video, the AMA members share their powerful story of overcoming tragedy, being lifted-up by their community, and believing in miracles.
