Awesome Canadian Attractions to Discover This Summer

By AMA Staff

Take time out this summer to travel through Alberta—and across the country—to discover these great Canadian attractions and make some lasting memories.

JASPER SKYTRAM, JASPER
For a real Rocky Mountain high, board the Jasper SkyTram. During a guided seven-minute trip to the top, you’ll rise more than 1,000 metres to a soaring elevation of 2,263 metres above sea level. After disembarking from your fully enclosed cable car, venture off the boardwalk to tackle the moderate hiking trail leading to the summit of Whistlers Mountain.

BIODÔME, MONTREAL
See 4,500 animals and 500 plant types under one roof. The daily penguin feeding is a must-see: Zoologists hand-feed five species of the tuxedo-clad birds. It’s an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet as the penguins gobble down fish after fish.

UKRAINIAN CULTURAL HERITAGE VILLAGE, EDMONTON
Some of the largest groups of early setters to Alberta were Ukrainian. Located east of Edmonton, this open-air museum recreates life among these 19th-century pioneers. Hop on a horse-drawn wagon and savour tasty fare like perogies.

INSIDE OUT EXPERIENCE, KANANASKIS
One of the best ways to experience the Rockies is by water. Try a half-day guided rafting trip on the Kananaskis, Bow or Red Deer rivers. After navigating the swirling rapids, kick back for an optional barbecue steak lunch.

CN TOWER, TORONTO
It’s been dethroned as the world’s tallest free-standing structure (by Dubai’s Burj Khalifa), but the tower remains a most impressive sight. The elevator alone is worth the trip: Skyrocket 346 metres in under a minute.

CAPILANO SUSPENSION BRIDGE, VANCOUVER
Since 1889, the 70-metre-high bridge has attracted adventure-seekers and nature lovers. Originally built as a wobbly rope-and- plank crossing, it has since (thankfully) been reinforced with steel cables and fencing.
